A magnificent season for the Burwood Briars

Venus sponsored cricket club most successful Shires team ever.

2009-2010 was another magnificent season that confirmed Burwood Briars as the most successful club ever in the Sydney Shires Cricket competition.

Of the 6 Burwood Briars teams, four reached their Premiership Semi Finals and one reached their Premiership Grand Final, which resulted in a draw due to rain.

The influx of new younger talent strengthens Burwood Briars’ quest to win premierships at each level of competition and to win back the overall Shires Cricket Club Championship next season.

Burwood Briars play cricket in the Sydney Shires competition. They have won the Shires Club Championship for 10 of the past 16 seasons including 5 successive seasons to 2006-2007.

Sydney Shires Cricket - Competition

There are 14 clubs in the Sydney Shires Cricket competition: Warringah , Burwood Briars, Strathfield, Roseville, North West Sydney, Lane Cove, South Sydney, Auburn, Macquarie University, Epping, Pennant Hills, Georges River, Southern Districts, and Lindfield.

Sydney Shires Cricket - Premierships

Teams from each of the 14 clubs play at various levels of competition: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade etc., competing for the Sydney Shires Cricket Premiership for their particular grade.

Sydney Shires Cricket - Club Championship

At the end of the season, the points earned by each team in a club are multiplied by a weighting factor* then added together to give the total for that club. The club with the most points wins the Sydney Shires Cricket Club Championship.

* Weighting factor: 1st grade = 6, 2nd grade = 5, 3rd grade = 4, 4th grade = 3
