Rewa victory again for Venus Raymonds Soccer Club

Venus sponsored soccer stars retain local league title

The Venus Raymonds beat Lokia United 2-0 in the final on Tuesday to retain the Rewa local league title. Former national team utility Patrick Wise and striker Ratu Veresa Toma netted the goals.

Venus Raymonds players are now top contenders for selection to the next Rewa District team that will battle it out against the other Fijian districts for the National Club Championship. That would continue the trend from last year when the Venus Raymonds made up the bulk of the victorious Rewa District team and the Rewa U-20 Youth team.

In fact, the current Rewa side consists mostly of Venus Raymonds players including Simione Tamanisau, Marika Rodu, Posiano Kolisito, Joshua Wilson, Kelepi Qaqa, Carsten Wise, Nathan Kumar, Nasoni Mereke, Veresa Toma, Sameer Ali, and Geoge Lui.

The Venus Raymonds benefit from the guidance and support of former Raymonds Rewa District team veterans including Nigel Khan, Reginald Singh, Patrick Wise and Josefa Buadromo.

In 1998, Raymonds became Rewa's first and the second southern division team after Suva's Combine Brothers to ever win the National Club Championship. Before that the side had featured in three consecutive finals from 1995 -1997.

The Rewa League title win tops off a great season during which 10 Venus Raymonds played for Rewa in the Intra-District Tournament and 8 played in Rewa's recent winning "Battle of the Giants" match against Nandi.  

The Venus Raymonds have been Rewa League champions on numerous occasions and in 2008 missed winning the title by only one goal. The club has been sponsored by Venus Packaging since 1988.
